陳結賢在一所全球性的律師行中，任職管理十多年，多年來公司經歷無數改變，她深明要更上一層樓，必須不斷自我增值，與公司的發展並肩前進。 因此，她選擇了這個富有中國特色的MBA 課程，以配合她的個人事業及公司未來在中國市場上成長。

對於課程帶給她的最大得益之處，除了是實際的商務知識外，還有一班與她一起學習的同學。在研究和討論的過程中，同學自發性地組織了溫習小組， 互相鞭策和扶持，一起分享個人經驗、成功的因素和解決困難的技巧等，更建立了深厚的友誼。她相信，這班同學將會成為生命和事業旅途上的良友夥伴。

修畢這個MBA課程後，現時陳結賢已成為該公司的亞洲區財政經理，主管公司於亞洲區包括中國內地的投資發展和財政策劃。課程不單給予她宏觀的 分析能力，增強了她對市場經濟的敏銳反應，也擴闊了她於企業管理的思想領域。她更鼓勵有意進修增值自己的人士，必須把握機會，為個人知識和 事業發展再創高峰。

Being born in a penniless Chinese family as a girl in the early 50’s with 6 siblings, the chance for me to receive education was slim. Most of my childhood was spent in taking care of my younger brothers and sister with two hours evening schooling. To obtain a university degree in my lifetime span has always been my dream.

Based on a firm belief that “it’s never too old to learn” I enrolled in the part time MBA program co-organised by University of Wales UK and International Academy of Management Hong Kong in March 2006.

With a full time job and a family to take care of, attending the lectures and finishing the course work was a real great challenge. Surprisingly the learning turned out to be pretty enjoyable. The friendly lecturers and the afternoon tea breaks were sadly missed when the program ended.

Due to other reasons, I resigned from my job early this year. Benefiting from the additional free time, I managed to complete my dissertation within two months and submitted in May 2007. When I was informed that my dissertation was accepted by the Exam Board, I finally realised that all the hard work was behind me. I would like to express my most sincere and heartfelt thanks to my husband and my daughter, without their support all this would not be possible. My husband has decided, despite his intense phobia of flying, to accompany me to the graduation ceremony in Wales this September.

As the old adage goes “nothing is certain but uncertainty”, a perfect reminder of how fleeting life is and the urgency to pursue our dreams while we still can. If I can obtain a MBA degree at the age of 54 to fulfill my childhood dream, so can you!

對於生於50年代初期的中國窮苦家庭，家有6兄弟姐妹的我來說，上學的機會微乎其微。年幼的我每天都要照顧弟妹，只能在晚上上2小時夜校。在有生之年取得一個大學學位，可說是我的夢想。

在學到老的信念支撐下，2006年3月，我報讀了威爾斯大學和IAMHK合辦的MBA兼讀課程。

修讀MBA是一個很大的挑戰，因為我還要兼顧日間的全職工作，以及要照顧家庭。沒有想到，自己原來很享受學習的過程。當課程完結時，我份外懷念友善的講師和午間的茶點時間。

今年初，我因為某些原因辭了工。時間頓時多了起來，我終於在2個月內完成了畢業論文，並於2007年5月呈交。當我接到論文已經過了關的通知時，我明白到所有的辛勞都已成為過去式。

我在這裏要衷心感謝丈夫和女兒，沒有他們的支持，一切都不可能做到。有坐飛機恐懼症的丈夫已經決定，今年9月會陪我到威爾斯出席畢業典禮。

有人說過，"變幻原是永恆"。這句話提醒我們，人生匆匆，有機會時便要努力追尋夢想。如果我可以在54歲之年取得一個MBA學位的話，你一定可以!

Welcome! My name is Paul Ng and I am a committee member of the MBA Alumni of the University of Wales Newport (UWN). I just completed my eight postgraduate modules and still have to finish my dissertation in the coming months. In the past whole year, I had the chance to meet different people working in various industries. We shared our experience on work and we have more understanding on each other. I grew up in Hong Kong and attended the undergraduate course in the University of Leeds in UK.  After completed my computer degree, I applied the PHD course in related to IT industry in the university. Luckily, I got a place and a scholarship. However, due to some personal reason, I had to give up and went back to Hong Kong.  During the 3 years in UK, I made lots of great friends and memories.

After several years of working in the IT department, I was ready to return to school.  My interests had migrated toward the business world but my skills were mostly in engineering.  Earning an MBA is helping me to bridge that gap.

I chose to attend UWN and studied in Hong Kong for several reasons, but the greatest reason was the people of the school (IAM).  Of all the places I have traveled, I’ve never seen a more positive and supportive community.  Knowing that I would meet my future business partners at whichever school I selected I was looking for people I could trust and would enjoy working with.  UWN was and still is a perfect fit.

歡迎你。我叫做Paul Ng，是UWNMBA校友會的委員會成員。我剛修畢8個課程單元，論文會在未來數月完成。過去一年，我有機會結識到不同行業的人。我們分享了大家的工作經驗，加深了彼此的了解。
我在香港長大，然後到英國大學讀書。取得了計算機學士學位後，便申請大學的資訊科技博士課程，並有幸獲得取錄和取得獎學金。不過，由於私人原因，我放棄了學業，回到香港生活。在英國的3年，我結交了很多好朋友和留下不少美好的回憶。

在資訊科技行業工作多年後，我作好了重返校園的準備，但興趣已轉到商業世界去。一直以來，我的工作經驗大部份是在工程方面，一個MBA學位將可以作為溝通這兩個世界的橋樑。

我選擇在香港修讀UWN的課程有幾個原因，其中最重要是學校(IAM)的人事作風。在到過的所有地方中，我從未遇過更積極和更支持的團隊。我明白到我的同學可能會成為我的商業夥伴，所以在挑選學校時，我一直在找尋值得信任和自己喜歡合作的人。UWN過去是，現在仍是，我作出的一個最理想的合適決定。

As for study life, some times it was more enjoyable than other times.  All in all, it was fun to be back in school again.  Now that classes are finished, I feel it was too soon to end.

The course is not felt to be the best training classes I have ever attended, however, it had created the opportunities to reflect on your workday.  Like looking at issues or project at different angles or perspectives.  Dr Metcalfe once made mention of "taking a satellite view" of your issues, which is inspiring and not difficult to perceive.

You can learn something new or refresh on existing knowledge.  You may call it broadening of exposure.  You get to know new friends, to interact and getting to know the many facets of the real side of people.

上學的日子，有時要比任何時候來得愉快。總的來說，重返校園真的很好玩。現在課程已經結束了，但我卻有著難捨的感覺。

我並不是說這是自己曾經參加過的最佳訓練課程，但它卻在工作上為我創造機會，例如它教我用不同角度和層面去看問題或項目。Metcalfe博士曾經說過"衛星遠觀"地去分析自己的問題，便甚具啟發性和不難理解。

你可以學到一些新的知識，又或者可以溫故知新，在舊的知識層面上建立新的認識。你可以把這稱作接觸面的擴大。你會認識到新朋友，通過互動交流，了解到人的真實一面。

It is a great honor for me to write this message sharing my experience in learning MBA from UWN/IAM.

I am a director of a medical equipment distributor. I was an accountant before setting up my own company. I myself did not have any formal training in business administration. After running my company for a few years, I found my knowledge was not good enough to lead the company for further development. I started to look for various business courses. Among the large pool of choices, MBA was identified to be the most suitable one to me. All the Hong Kong universities were offering MBA course. But most of them were held in the weekdays evening and Saturdays. Only the MBA offered by UWN/IAM was in Saturday and Sunday, this was a good fit time schedule for me. I could concentrate to work in weekdays and did not need to rush for evening class. Besides, interactive and group study are the major factors of MBA course, students can attend the class very well.  With the support from my husband, I could manage the study well.

After finished the core subjects and examinations, we need to prepare a 20,000 words dissertation for graduation.  This was most hard time for all the MBA students.  However, IAM arranged a lot of workshops to help the students.  Our graduation rate nearly 99%!!

Furthermore, I could gain an UK degree by not leaving Hong Kong.

There was another good reason why I chose UWN/IAM. It was the value for money. All other universities offered very high price course. Some of them was even more than half a million HK dollars.

Why I choose UWN? Simply because of its teaching style that provides a very flexible mode of learning to fit my working needs and lifestyle in Hong Kong, and also the fruitful contents of the course provided by UWN.

During the time it took for me to take part in the MBA programme, I felt I was completely changed. I learned various business concepts, theories, knowledge and skills. And it did prove many of them are useful for my current job and even in my daily life.
